Stars launch College Football Sydney Cup at Allianz Stadium

May 18, 2017

San Francisco 49ers newest star recruit, Solomon Thomas, and three-time Super Bowl Champion, Ed McCaffrey, gathered at Allianz Stadium today to mark 100 days until the College Football Sydney Cup.

They were joined by a marching band, cheerleaders and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall who expects sports fans from around the world to be a part of the exclusive event.

“Sydney is the home of Australia’s major sporting events, and the return of the College Football Sydney Cup promises to once again be a highlight on the 2017 NSW events calendar,” Mr Marshall said.

“Securing major sporting events like the College Football Sydney Cup, is an exciting opportunity to showcase Sydney and NSW to the world, while enjoying some American sporting culture.

“Fans will be able to immerse themselves in the game day experience with a marching band, cheerleaders, as well as authentic American food on offer.

“We expect the match will attract thousands of domestic and international visitors, who will inject more than $19 million in visitor expenditure into the local economy.”

Following official proceedings, both Solomon Thomas and Ed McCaffrey, took Sydney athletes and personalities, including Brett Deledio and Anthony Minichiello, through an American football draft combine.

As reward for the local stars’ on field efforts, participants were also invited to taste-test the exclusive American style menu provided by Delaware North Australia, Bistro Morgan and Guilty Burgers.
