Vale Shane Warne

We join the sporting world in disbelief and shock at the loss of Shane Warne. We have farewelled too many great cricketers these past few months.

'Warnie' was one of the most loved cricketers of any generation, particularly at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

He played his first and last Test matches at the SCG and has taken more Test wickets at our ground than any player in history.

His feats will live on in our minds and his performances are preserved on our honour boards but our summers ahead will be emptier without his presence.

We cheered Warnie on the field and many of our staff were lucky to know him during his playing and commentary careers. He was generous with his time whenever he visited, greeting us like old family members.

He loved the SCG and we loved him back.

• 14 Test matches: 276 runs at 17.25 with one half-century, 64 wickets at 28.12 with four five-wicket hauls and twice taking 10 wickets in a match
• 26 One-Day International matches: 81 runs at 10.12, 43 wickets at 22.74 with one five-wicket haul
• Five Sheffield Shield Matches: 111 runs at 18.50 with one half-century; 15 wickets at 44.60 with one five-wicket haul
• Made his Test Debut at the SCG against India in 1991/92
• Took 7-56 and 5-72 against South Africa in 1993/94 and 5-75 and 6-34 against South Africa in 1997/98. These performances gave him match figures of 12-128 in 1993/94 and 11-109 in 1997/98.
• Retired from Test Cricket at the SCG against England in January 2007 alongside with Glenn McGrath and Justin Langer.
• His final match at the SCG was for the Melbourne Stars against the Sydney Sixers in 2011/12
